THE HISTORY OF THE JAPANESE BRAND
Kihachiro Onitsuka founded his athletic shoe manufacturing company in 1949 in Kobe, Japan. However, it was not until 1979 that the company was renamed Asics by its creator to correspond to the Latin acronym “Anima Sana In Corpore Sano”, which means a “healthy mind in a healthy body”. In May 1990, Asics founded the Research Institute of Sports Science in Kobe to continue improving its sports shoes and textiles. Developing tennis shoes and clothing for several decades, Asics has convinced players with its high-quality products and sponsors several professionals such as Matteo Berrettini, David Goffin, Novak Djokovic and Alex De Minaur.
