Description

The K-Swiss Ultrashot 4 Clay, the stability benchmark on clay

Worn on the ATP and WTA tours, the Ultrashot 4 is the most structured shoe in the K-Swiss catalogue. Its clay court version keeps the Aösta 7.0 compound with an outsole pattern built for the red dirt. White, black and gold colourway.

Who is this shoe for?

It targets the baseline player, on the defensive side, who builds long rallies and loads the lateral supports heavily. At around 428 g in a 42.5 with a 10.5 mm drop, this is a heavy, tall shoe, the opposite of a speed model: it delivers hold and protection rather than snap. It is also the right call for a heavier build, or for anyone who destroys shoes in a few months and wants durability above all. Standard width fit.

The technologies explained

  • Aösta 7.0 outsole: a high density, non marking rubber with a clay specific pattern for grip and slide control.
  • DragGuard 7.0: reinforcement placed on the highest wear areas, the toe and heel. It is what lets K-Swiss offer a six month outsole guarantee.
  • Surge 7.0: the midsole is built for energy return, which makes the shoe far less clumsy than its weight suggests.
  • Shockframe: a moulded TPU arch shaped structure under the heel that guides the step and absorbs impact on landing.
  • TPU support chassis and graphite winglet: 360 degree support and lateral hold through extreme loading, without locking the foot down.
  • DuraMesh and Durawrap: a breathable mesh reinforced with TPU yarn through the midfoot, plus abrasion protection on both sidewalls.

The Extreme Tennis team's view

This is the opposite of a speed shoe and should be bought knowing that. 428 g is heavy, and the first instinct on trying it is to find it bulky. But that is exactly what you want from a clay shoe for a player who slides a lot and stays back: the chassis does not move, the heel is properly locked, and DragGuard 7.0 answers the real clay problem, toe wear from sliding. A quick player who lives at the net will find it too heavy.
