Wilson Defyer 100UL V1: heavy spin in an ultralight frame

The Wilson Defyer 100UL V1 is the ultralight version of the new Defyer range, built for improving players who want heavy, controllable spin without having to fight their racket. At 265 g unstrung, it moves effortlessly and lets arm speed do the work.

Who is this racket for?

The intermediate player looking to raise their level by hitting heavier, who does not yet have the build or arm speed for a 300 g frame. It also suits women players and juniors moving up to a high-performance adult frame. A 645 cm² head, 16x19 string pattern and 68.6 cm length.

The technologies explained

• Torq Shaft: a sculpted throat that efficiently transfers the energy of the swing into the hoop, putting more rotation and speed on the ball.
• Dual Taper Beam and Parallel Drilling: a variable beam height of 23.75 / 25.5 / 23 mm and a parallel drilling pattern that noticeably enlarge the sweet spot and make the response more consistent.
• SI3D: a flexible hoop that improves ball interaction, combined with a stiffer throat that adds power and spin.

Our X-Compare measurements back up Wilson's promise on two counts: this is a very manoeuvrable racket that is very comfortable putting rotation on the ball, with respectable power for its weight. It accelerates easily and topspin comes almost naturally. The flip side of the low weight is control, which lags behind: the ball comes off quickly and needs a well-built stroke to stay in the court. Stability is also limited against heavy hitters, as the frame can be pushed around by incoming pace. Our advice: pair it with a control-oriented string to rein in the launch.
