How to care for your technical tennis apparel to make it last?
Expert guide Textile tips

You have invested in technical tennis apparel for their comfort, breathability and their ability to keep you dry. But did you know that these high-performance textiles require specific care to maintain their properties match after match?

Unlike a simple cotton t-shirt, a poorly washed technical outfit can quickly lose its effectiveness. Fortunately, a few simple steps are enough to preserve your equipment.

The 4 golden rules for caring for technical apparel

To ensure the longevity and performance of your outfits, simply follow four simple rules but essential ones. Think of it as your post-match routine for your equipment.

Tips

Caring for your clothes

1. Wash quickly: don't let sweat settle in

The first rule is the simplest: don't leave your damp clothes balled up in your tennis bag. Once the effort is over,  sweat and bacteria begin to develop, creating stubborn odors that are difficult to eliminate.

Make it a habit to wash your outfits as soon as possible after your match or training to keep them fresh and healthy.

2. Wash cold: protect technical fibers

Synthetic materials like polyester,  elastane,  or lycra, which make up the majority of modern tennis clothing, don't like heat.

A high-temperature wash can irreversibly damage elastic fibers, loosen the fabric, and reduce its technical properties.

The rule is simple: always wash your sportswear at 30°C maximum. This is more than enough to clean them effectively while preserving their integrity.

3. The mistake never to make: banish fabric softener

This is the most important tip in this guide.  NEVER use fabric conditioner or fabric softener to wash your technical tennis clothing.

Fabric softener works by depositing a waxy film on the fibers to make them softer. On technical clothing, this film clogs the pores of the fabric and completely nullifies its ability to wick away sweat ("wicking effect").

You invested in a men's tennis t-shirt or a tennis skirt to stay dry; using fabric softener is like transforming your high-performance outfit into a simple cotton piece that will retain moisture.

4. Air drying: gentleness above all

Just like hot washing, the tumble dryer is the enemy of your sportswear.  Intense heat can deform clothes,  shrink fabrics,  and destroy elastic fibers.

The best and simplest method is to let your clothes air dry.  Synthetic materials dry very quickly, and this gentle method will preserve their shape and elasticity for a long time.

Pro tips for perfect maintenance

Against stubborn odors: if an odor persists despite washing, add one or two tablespoons of baking soda directly into the washing machine drum. It's a natural and very effective deodorizer.

Protect delicate items: for garments with mesh inserts or thin straps, like some sports bras or tank tops, use a laundry bag. It will protect them from friction and snags in the drum.

Avoid bleach: it is too aggressive and can weaken fabrics and alter colors.

Well-maintained equipment is high-performing equipment

By following these few simple tips, you will not only extend the lifespan of your garments; you will especially preserve the technical qualities for which you chose them.

Good maintenance is the guarantee of maintaining optimal comfort and performance on the court.
