The choice of tennis shoes for your child is important, as it will allow him/her to follow his/her tennis evolution. Several criteria should be taken into account, such as the level of play, grip, comfort, support, resistance, etc. Follow our guide to choose the best tennis shoe for your child.
THE LEVEL OF PLAY
There are many different types of children’s tennis shoes and it can be difficult to select the right model. His or her level of play will define the type of junior tennis shoe to select.
THE BEGINNERS
Your child plays tennis once a week. It is worth choosing a durable children’s tennis shoe so that he or she can also use it for school sports.
THE CONFIRMED
Your child plays tennis at least twice a week, so you will need a pair that provides both strength and comfort to protect their joints.
THE EXPERTS
Your child plays tennis intensively. He or she will need a pair of shoes specifically designed for tennis that can meet the demands of this sport.
THE GRIP OF THE CHILDREN'S TENNIS SHOE
Grip will play a major role in the choice of your child’s tennis shoe. If your child plays on clay, then you will need to select a special clay sole to grip the surface without slipping. If they only play on hard surfaces, you can choose an all-surface shoe.
THE COMFORT
At Extreme Tennis, we only select models with good comfort. This will allow you to be sure to have a shoe that offers good cushioning and thus protect your child’s joints. The comfort of the shoe (when your foot enters the shoe) must also be of good quality so that you can feel comfortable throughout the training session or match.
THE SUPPORT
Support is also an important criterion, as it will allow your child to be confident when moving. The tennis shoe should be able to support the ankle during sudden changes of direction.
THE RESISTANCE
The tennis shoe is subject to a great deal of wear and tear, as it will rub against the ground. We therefore advise you to choose a rubber sole with forefoot reinforcements.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO TAKE CARE IN CHOOSING YOUR CHILD'S TENNIS SHOE?
Children’s feet are different from those of adults. Their feet are constantly changing and they need a shoe that is comfortable and supportive while supporting their natural growth. The different brands on the market adapt their shoes to meet the requirements of children.
ROUNDED END
You may have noticed, but the end of children’s tennis shoes is rounded. This is because children up to the age of 7 on average have an almost straight big toe. The child needs to have room to move his toes up and down and from right to left.
CENTERED HEEL
The child’s foot is relatively flat and the arch is not well developed. The heel is therefore centred to support the foot, reduce the risk of foot deformation and pressure on the small toes.
FLATTENED KICK
The flattened instep shape of the children’s tennis shoes provides better support for a more stable position. This prevents the feet from sliding forward.
FOREFOOT RAISED
The degree of forefoot lift should be moderately high to prevent the child from tripping or being thrown off balance in sports.
GROWTH SPACE
As a general rule, the brands leave a space of between 2 and 5% in the foot to allow the toes to move freely and continue growing smoothly.
