What is an overgrip?

Before diving into the heart of the matter, it's important to understand what an overgrip is. It is a thin strip of synthetic material that wraps around the handle of your racket to offer better grip comfort and better sweat absorption. A well-applied overgrip can make a big difference in your game.

Necessary equipment

To apply an overgrip, you will only need a few items:

  1. An overgrip: generally sold in multi-packs and available in several colors.
  2. Scissors: to cut off excess grip.
  3. A pen: to mark the cut.
  4. The adhesive tape provided with the overgrip: to secure the overgrip at the end of the installation.
Step by step

How to apply an overgrip?

Follow these steps to apply your overgrip correctly.

Unroll the overgrip

Start by unrolling your new overgrip. You will notice an adhesive side. Very often, one part is beveled: this is the side from which you should start applying it.

Start at the end of the handle

Remove the protective film from the adhesive side. Start at the base of the handle, making sure the adhesive is firmly in contact with the handle.

Wrap the overgrip

Once the adhesive part is in place, unroll while maintaining tension, then wrap the overgrip around the handle uniformly, with neither too much nor too little tension to avoid air bubbles and creases.

Maintain a constant overlap

As you wrap, maintain a constant overlap, typically 1 to 2 millimeters. This ensures uniform coverage and a comfortable grip.

Finish the process

Once you reach the top of the handle, draw a straight line aligned with the junction of the grip and the racket, cut off the excess with scissors, then secure the overgrip with the provided adhesive tape. Your overgrip is installed like a professional!

Tips

Tips for a successful installation

Always turn in the same direction

If you are right-handed, turn the overgrip clockwise. If you are left-handed, turn it counter-clockwise.

Change your overgrip regularly

Over time, overgrips wear out and lose their grip or absorption capacity. For optimal performance, remember to change them regularly.

Ready to equip your racket?

Applying an overgrip is a simple gesture that truly changes your playing comfort: better racket feel and better performance on the court. Take care of your equipment and always keep it in the best condition.
