TYPES OF TENNIS BALLS

The type of tennis ball to use is chosen according to age and practice. Junior’s tennis balls are available in 3 colors (red, orange and green) which correspond to the gradual progression of the player. The last ball, the green ball, will be a transition ball that can be used by teenagers and adult beginners.

THE FOAM OR RED BALL

Foam balls or red balls are ideal for young children from 4 to 6 years old. They have a rebound height of 25% of a conventional ball. The ball is therefore softer thanks to less pressure. The ball speed is thus adapted allowing the child to hit more balls with his tennis racket.

ORANGE BALL

Orange balls are ideal for ages 7-9. They have a rebound height of 50% of a classic ball and follow the evolution of your child in his learning.

GREEN BALL

Green balls have a bounce height of 75% of a conventional ball. They are intended for children aged 9 and over. They will also be ideal for the player who are new to tennis. Indeed, the ball will be crushed more in the string and will allow better control of the ball.

THE PRESSURELESS BALL

Pressureless balls are practice balls for adults. They consist of a rubber core and synthetic felt . The pressureless ball is more resistant , but also more lively. In addition to better durability, control and playing pleasure are worse. For beginners, we instead use green balls that help you learn tennis.

PRESSURIZED BALLS

It is the favorite tennis ball for tennis players. It offers a good quality of rebound , a maximum control of the ball as well as an optimal pleasure of play. These balls are made of a rubber core and a natural felt , so their price is higher than that of the balls without pressure. This type of ball is used for competitions .

THE LEVEL OF PRACTICE

YOU ARE NEW TO TENNIS

You need a slower , softer, and easier to play ball than a regular ball. The green ball will make it easier for you to grasp the strokes of tennis and will ensure better progress in learning tennis.

YOU PLAY SOMETIMES A MONTH

You play at leisure, but regularly. You need a durable ball with good bounce quality. Pressureless balls will then suit your practice the best.

YOU ARE A COMPETITOR

You train and play tennis and competition. Your research should therefore be directed towards tennis balls with pressure for an optimal quality of rebound.

CLAY BALL OR ALL COURT BALL?

Your choice of tennis ball model will also be governed by the court on which you are playing. On hard surfaces, the All Court balls will be the most suitable. On clay, we prefer to use Clay court balls which can keep their yellow color intact thanks to a specific treatment of the felt.

 

DIFFERENT BALLS FOR PADEL

If you play Padel, padel balls will be the most suitable for your practice. It is often possible to hear that padel balls are only a marketing argument, yet the regulations surrounding these balls are very different from those for tennis balls:

  • Size: while a tennis ball should have a diameter between 6.35 cm and 6.67 cm, that of a padel ball will be between 6.35 cm and 6.77 cm;
  • Weight: a tennis ball must weigh between 56.2 and 58.5 grams, while the weight of a padel ball will be between 56 and 59.5 grams;</ li>
  • Pressure: a tennis ball must have an internal pressure of around 8.165 kg, which is significantly higher than that of a padel ball which must be between 4.6 and 5.2 kg;
  • Rebound: the rebound of a tennis ball after a fall from a height of 254cm must be between 135 and 145 cm, that of a padel ball must be between 135 cm and 147 cm. The padel ball therefore has a higher rebound.
