The size of a tennis racket can be used to refer to its length, but also to the diameter of its handle (or grip). The lengths of adult rackets tend to become more and more standardised over time. However, it is still necessary to measure the diameter of the handle to find the right size.
LENGTH OF THE RACKET
Tennis rackets come in a standard size of 68.5 cm, which applies to most models. However, they can also be extended to 73.66 cm: these are known as XL (or extended) rackets. On the other hand, there are also shortened tennis rackets. There are also different sizes for children.
STANDARD RACKET
It has the advantage of being the most widespread with its size of 68.5 cm. It offers the best compromise between manoeuvrability and power. The vast majority of tennis rackets sold have this standard size.
EXTENDED OR XL RACKET
In general, an extended tennis racket is 71cm long. The advantage of this is that it offers more power and more reach, but you will lose manoeuvrability especially on the return of serve. They are often used by professionals or players with a very good technical level.
SHORTENED RACKET
They are rare on the market and measure on average 67.5 cm. They have the advantage of improving the manoeuvrability of the racket at the expense of power. Women like this type of racket to be more comfortable technically.
JUNIOR TENNIS RACKETS
Junior tennis rackets are available in different lengths often written in inches. The main criterion for choosing a junior racket is the size of the child: the bigger the child, the longer the racket will need to be, until it is time to switch to an adult frame.
| Size of the child | Age | Rackets |
|---|---|---|
| 80 to 89 cm | 2 to 3 years old | 17 pouces |
| 89 to 100 cm | 3 to 4 years old | 19 pouces |

| 113 to 125 cm | 6 to 8 years old | 23 pouces |

| 141 to 165 cm | 10 to 12 years old | 26 pouces |
