Choosing the right children’s tennis racket for your child is essential for them to thrive in the sport. The racket is the most important part of a tennis player’s kit, so choosing the right racket is something to think about. If your child has decided to take up tennis or simply needs a new racket, follow our guide to find out which size tennis racket to choose for your son or daughter. To make this choice easier and to select a racket that will allow your child to shine on the court, you will need to know two important pieces of information: your child’s height and his or her level of tennis play.

JUNIOR TENNIS RACKET SIZES

The first criterion to take into account when choosing a junior tennis racket is the size of your child. A racket that is too big will be a real hindrance to progress and a racket that is too small will lack power. In both cases, it could discourage your child and take away his or her enjoyment of the game. To help your future champion flourish on the tennis court, follow the chart below to find the right size junior racket for your child.

If your child’s height does not match the age indicated in the second column, which may be the case if he or she is shorter or taller than the average child of his or her age, look for the racket that matches your child’s height without taking the age into account. A tennis racket that is the right size will provide more comfort and will make it easier for your child to progress and, most importantly, to have fun playing tennis.

Choosing the right tennis racket for your child is a crucial step in protecting your child. A racket that is too big or too heavy can pose risks to your child, such as injury, slowed progress or poor learning.

YOUR CHILD’S LEVEL OF PLAY

After the size of your child, the level of play of your child is also very important when choosing a junior racket. A child with several years of tennis experience will not choose the same type of racket as a child of the same age and size who has never played tennis in his or her life. A child’s level of play can be separated into two distinct categories:

BEGINNER

Your child is just starting out in tennis and will need manoeuvrability to make it easier to learn tennis strokes. The racket will need to be durable in order to withstand the blows and shocks it will receive. You should therefore look for an aluminium racket. These rackets are offered at attractive and affordable prices.

CONFIRMED AND EXPERT

Your child has the technical basics of tennis and participates in tournaments, so he or she needs a quality racket that will allow him or her to progress. Choose a graphite racket that will give your child the power, forgiveness and comfort they need.
