Overgrip advice

Why use a tennis overgrip?

The tennis overgrip is placed over the grip and improves your hold: it provides extra grip, better moisture absorption, and also allows you to enlarge the handle. It even offers a touch of personalization. Choosing it well is important to maintain your enjoyment of the game and stay performant.

How to choose your tennis overgrip?

There are different criteria to choose the right overgrip to put on your tennis racket.

Grip

When you sweat, your overgrip must maintain good grip to prevent your hand from slipping during rallies and to stay focused. Some references offer a very sticky effect so that the hand "sticks" to the handle.

Moisture absorption

The second role of an overgrip is to absorb moisture. Brands offer different technologies, such as micro-perforations, for better sweat absorption.

Thickness

Thickness affects comfort, feel, and durability: the thinner the overgrip, the more feel it offers; the thicker it is, the more comfortable and durable it is. The average thickness is 0.6 mm.

Customize your racket

Customize your tennis racket

The overgrip also allows you to customize your tennis racket, whether for the design or to slightly increase the grip size.

Adjust the grip size

By applying an overgrip, you will slightly increase your grip size. If you feel your grip is too small, opt for an overgrip. However, avoid applying two overgrips on top of each other: the edges of the grip will round off and you will lose feel.

Match the design

Colored overgrips allow you to match the shade of your racket with your overgrip — a more feminine touch is possible with pink overgrips, for example.

Our advice

Remember to regularly change your overgrip so that it retains its grip qualities. Nothing is more stressful than feeling the handle slip between your hands during a match: change it 1 to 2 times a month if you play twice a week.
