Which Wilson Pro Staff racket should I choose?

There are a number of different Pro Staff models to suit your game. The Pro Staff Autograph is Roger Federer's racket! At 340 grams, it offers outstanding stability but also demands a lot of technique (both in terms of swing and placement) to exploit it. The Pro Staff 97 will offer plenty of stability, control and feel. This is a racket that will delight the second set. The Pro Staff 97L offers more playability than its larger siblings while still being a control-oriented, precision racquet. The Pro Staff 97UL is ideal for the young competitive player moving up to their first adult racket.

Note: The Wilson Pro Staff 97 LS racket has been discontinued as well as the Pro Staff 90.

For what type of game?

The Wilson Pro Staff racquet range is designed for the attacker who likes to storm the net, gain ground on the opponent and finish on the volley. It provides maximum stability on the shot and most importantly incredible accuracy. If you are a power player who likes to get to the net and is looking for accuracy and touch, then this is the perfect set for you. In addition, the stability provided by this range of rackets gives a great feel for the ball.

Technologies of the Pro Staff range

The American brand has developed 4 technologies in this iconic range:

  • The Braided Graphite provides the frame with a Kevlar and graphite construction to improve comfort and ball control;
  • Braid 45 provides a 45-degree braid of Kevlar fibres to improve stability and feel;
  • String Mapping provides a denser string pattern to improve accuracy on every shot;
  • Ergo End Cap provides a larger end cap to improve ergonomics.

Which string to use?

If ball control is your priority, then we recommend you visit our strings page and filter on the control benefit. However, be careful to use a multifilament string on the Wilson Pro Staff 97 UL racket to improve comfort. Indeed, the use of a monofilament on very light rackets would emit harmful vibrations (increased risk of tennis elbow).
