WHAT CRITERIA SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT?

We have taken into account 4 criteria to segment the different ranges: power, control, spin and versatility. Once you have defined your first criterion, you will have the choice to filter with a second criterion to refine your search.

POWER

In general, a stiff racket with a thick profile will provide power. Head balance favours power at the expense of manoeuvrability. While all players may want a powerful racket to finish points more easily, power is often combined with forgiveness and a thick profile. Power rackets are perfect for beginners (280-285g for a man) as well as for seniors looking for comfort and ball speed with shorter swings.

CONTROL

small headsize, a thin profile or a tight string pattern promotes control. A low balance allows for better maneuverability at the expense of power. In general, control rackets are the most demanding to play, as they provide less forgiveness (632 sq. cm. headsize or less, smaller sweetspot). We recommend these for competitive players who are technically proficient and find power naturally. With a precise racket, they can fully let loose on the court without fear of length errors. With the latest technology, brands are now able to offer precise and forgiving rackets like the Head Gravity.

SPIN

The string pattern is the first criterion that will favour spin. An open string pattern (more space between the strings) will allow the ball to spin more. The shape of the grommets also plays an important role. In recent years, brands have been innovating to allow the strings more freedom of movement for better spin. Also the racket ranges offering maximum spin have a specially designed aerodynamics. Finally, a more upright balance can make it easier to generate spin.

VERSATILITY

Versatile rackets will offer a very good compromise between power and control. These rackets can be used by a majority of players.
